COERR has been working for Environmental Education and Protection, focusing on sustainable agriculture and waste management. In March 2023, COERR Mae Sarieng organized the “Youth-led Group Activities on Waste Management Campaign on Recycling” in the two temporary Shelters of Mae Hong Son Province’s Sob Moei District. The objectives of this activity was to raise awareness of children and youths to realize how importance it is to reduce the amount of waste in the community through garbage separation. It also provided opportunity for the children and youth to create new products from used materials. The most significant aim was to reduce waste pollution which affected the community. On March 1-2, 2023, the event was organized in Ban Mae La Oon temporary shelter with 135 participants, of 98 females and 37 males. The participants brought with them used materials and created into new product. They learned about waste management and waste separation through waste sorting games; vegetable growing in a recycled container; a fashion show of recycled costume; and an interview of the youth representatives about the recycled costume presentation ideas, their inspiration, difficulties in making recycled products and experience they gained. Another event was organized in Ban Mae Lama Luang on March 16, 2023, with 129 participants of 86 females and 43 males. The activity focused on a contest of “Best Female and Male Recycled Clothes Models”. Participants brought their used materials they could find and then invented their beautiful recycled dress. Some wore a skirt, made of a garbage bag, some wore a crown, made of used bottles., etc. There was also a quiz about waste separation which encouraged participants to recognize and become aware of waste sorting while thinking about the answers. Feedback from these young participants were that there was a unity among the teams. They can express their creativity which attracted many admirers and in addition, realize the benefits of proper waste segregation that could turn a variety of used stuff to many new products.
